Tasks
Strategic Planning & Leadership
- Database Strategy: Develop and implement a database infrastructure strategy that supports current and future business needs.
- Technology Evaluation: Research and recommend database technologies, tools, and best practices to improve system efficiency and scalability.
- Resource Management: Identify required skill sets and ensure the database team is equipped to meet business demands. Operations, Technical Services & Security
- Daily Operations: Oversee routine database activities, including performance monitoring, space management, and system health checks.
- Security & Compliance: Implement and maintain robust security controls, ensuring compliance with relevant data protection regulations.
- High Availability & Disaster Recovery: Establish backup and recovery strategies, regularly test failover procedures, and ensure minimal downtime.
Performance & Optimization
- Performance Tuning: Analyze query performance, optimize database configurations, and troubleshoot bottlenecks.
- Capacity Planning: Monitor usage trends and forecast future capacity requirements to maintain optimal performance.
Project & Portfolio Management
- Database Projects: Lead or participate in database-related projects (e.g., upgrades, migrations, new implementations), ensuring timely delivery within scope and budget.
- Methodologies & Tools: Use appropriate project management frameworks and tools to plan, track, and communicate progress to stakeholders.
Budget Management & Supplier Relations
- Cost Optimization: Collaborate with IT leadership to propose cost-effective solutions for licensing, hardware, and third-party services.
- Vendor Management: Liaise with database solution providers to ensure adherence to service-level agreements and performance expectations.
Employee Management & Development
- Team Collaboration: Work closely with developers, system administrators, and business analysts to resolve issues and enhance database performance.
- Training & Mentorship: Share knowledge with team members and provide guidance on best practices and new database technologies.
Documentation & Governance
- Policies & Standards: Maintain comprehensive documentation, including standards for database configurations and operations.
- Compliance & Reporting: Ensure all database environments comply with organizational and industry standards; provide regular performance and capacity reports to leadership.
Requirements
- Education: Bachelor’s Degree (or Technical Equivalent) in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field.
- Years of Experience: 4-5 years of hands-on experience in database administration (including installation, configuration, optimization, and troubleshooting).
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in one or more database systems (e.g., Oracle, SQL Server, MySQL, PostgreSQL), with a strong understanding of performance tuning and query optimization.
- Security & Compliance: Familiarity with data security frameworks, regulations, and best practices (e.g.,GDPR, HIPAA).
- Additional Skills: Excellent communication, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills for cross-functional collaboration.
