What kind of previous experience is required to be able to fill this position?
Experience working in medium to large VMware server environment. Financial sector experience a plus.
Cisco UCS experience is essential.
Responsibilities include VM estate review for vulnerabilities and developing remediation plans, building ESXi hosts, troubleshooting VMware host and vCenter Server issues, building out and supporting networks with standard switches and distributed switches, patching Vmware hosts, troubleshooting environmental performance issues, assisting other teams with VM server troubleshooting, PowerShell scripting and automation, vRops, some SAN/storage knowledge, and project planning. The ability to effectively use, create and modify the appropriate operational and process documentation for Vmware environments. Responsibilities also include ensuring that the various virtualized environments and related services that have been implemented to maintain operational integrity. This is typically accomplished by operational reviews of the VMware infrastructure configuration using various tools, provisioning, and change management. In addition, this position will work as a consultant with various internal customers to provide information pertaining to troubleshooting, user support and education, documentation and planning.
Qualified candidates must have basic knowledge in supporting a VMware server environment. Proven experience with problem-solving in VMware administration including knowledge of Linux (essential) and Windows servers (preferable). A good understanding of SAN storage, and networking. A background in troubleshooting, interpreting logs, and analyzing performance data is desired. Knowledge of the following is also a plus: EMC VMAX, Cisco SAN, Cisco UCS environments. Planning, project organization skills, and the ability to multi-task with competing priorities are also required. Candidates must possess a four year degree in Computer Science or equivalent knowledge. VMware Certification is preferred (VCP).
