Marine Claims Analyst

ExxonMobil has Marine Claims organization based out of Budapest and integrated into the businesses. Organization manages ~20k/year marine demurrage and oil loss claims associated with ExxonMobil’s global marine transportation activities adding upto significantly high amounts. Given potential cost reduction opportunities that they provide, demurrage and oil loss claims remain to be a strong focus area for ExxonMobil management

Marine Claims Analyst play crucial role in ensuring claims are reviewed, calculated, filed, negotiated and settled in line with terms and conditions in a timely manner. They are responsible for all aspects of demurrage, oil loss including the use of ExxonMobil claims system (VIP/Vesson) and other operating systems.

The role provides extensive opportunities to learn both ExxonMobil organization and also the Marine Industry. Marine Claims Analyst work closely with Charterers, Freight Operations, Commercial Supply & Trading, Sales, Refineries, Trading, Hydrocarbon Measurement, Product Quality and Accounting within the Company. Their external contacts include vessel Owners, Charterers, Cargo buyer/Seller, Brokers, Agents, Ship Captain, Inspectors and Agents.

THE ROLE WILL YOU PLAY IN OUR TEAM

  • Research, review and analyze contract terms, documents and events to validate claims filed to ExxonMobil by other counterparties
  • Ensure filing of receivable claims to 3rd party/Affiliate within time limit and in line with the contract;
  • Active follow up and negotiation of claims with 3rd Party
  • Identify and seek opportunities for cost reductions through negotiation and commercial mindset
  • Respond to claims questions from customers (3rd Party, Affiliate, Management)
  • Timely escalation of issues to supervisor, manager and business line as appropriate
  • Liaise as needed with Trader, Marine Coordinator, scheduler and terminals to minimize losses and maximize value to ExxonMobil
  • On satisfactory closure of claims approve for payment or for generation of invoice, as needed
  • Identify lessons learnt and implement work process improvements

WHO ARE WE LOOKING FOR

  • Bachelor’s/Master’s degree in Business Economics, Logistics / STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics), Marine, Business Administration, or equivalent.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills to interface across functions based in different locations and in partly virtual organization
  • Analytical skills, ability to understand contract terms, identify and execute cost saving opportunities
  • Commercial minded, creative, driven and proactive having good time management skills
  • Sound command of Microsoft Office, especially Excel.
  • Full professional proficiency in English.
  • Work experience in claims handling or logistics, operational and commercial areas is an advantage
  • Experience with information technology systems like SAP and/or Veson is an advantage
